McDermott Awarded Presidential Scholarship

Brandyn McDermott of Canastota has been awarded the Presidential Scholarship at Elmira College. School officials say the college has the longest-running Honor Scholarship program in the nation.

Konieczko Named to Geneseo Dean’s List

The State University of New York at Geneseo has announced its dean’s list for the fall semester 2010. Marissa Konieczko of Canastota was included among students named to the list.

To be on the list, a student must have achieved a 3.5 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours.

O’Hern on SUNY Oneonta Dean’s List

Erin O’Hern of Canastota was among 1,507 students from SUNY Oneonta who earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2010 semester.

Gleeson Named to Quinnipiac Dean’s List

Giana Gleeson of Canasotta was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at Quinnipiac University.

Canastota Residents Graduate from Morrisville State

The following area residents were among students to graduate from Morrisville State College in December: Matthew Devine received a degree in residential construction (associate of occupational science), Brett Durfee received a degree in natural resources conservation, Julie Mccallops and Cassandra Phillips received associates of applied science in nursing, and Kyle Post received a bachelor of technology degree in network administration.

Morrisville State Announces Dean’s List

Morrisville State College recently announced those students who were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2010 semester. Among them were the following Canastota residents:

Jadon Hale, Larry Kitt, Julie Mccallops, Patrick Mcleod, Debra Morgan, Cassie Reandeau, Eric Renfer, Scott Winchell, Kyle Becker, Tiffany Cotton, John Duwel, Robert Clark and Adam Denney.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve an average of 3.0 to 3.99 for the semester and complete 12 credit hours.

Canastota Residents Make Plattsburgh Dean’s List

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh:

Local Residents on SUNY Oswego Honor Rolls

Several area residents have been named to the president’s and deans’ lists for the fall semester at SUNY Oswego. Showing academic achievement, with their major and honor in parentheses, are:

Kristyn N. McDermott of Warner Heights Road, a senior (public justice, dean’s list); Kiri A. Jarvis of Perryville Road, a senior (psychology, dean’s list); Savaria M. Raineri of  Route 31, a junior (technology education, dean’s list); and Tyler A. Shovlin of Klock Road in Canastota, a sophomore (cinema and screen studies, dean’s list)

The President’s and Deans’ lists represent the academic top 25.9 percent of the Oswego student body. Students who achieve grade averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale are named to the President’s List, the top 6.3 percent of Oswego students. To be included on the Deans’ List, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.

Robinson Studying Abroad Through St. Lawrence

Scott W. Robinson of Canastota is participating in St. Lawrence University’s International Study Program for the spring 2011 semester. Robinson, a sophomore, is studying in Kenya. He is majoring in global studies with a minor in African studies. Robinson graduated from The Clarkson School in Potsdam.

MVCC Graduates More Than 220 at December Commencement

More than 220 students earned an associate degree or certificate at the completion of the fall semester at Mohawk Valley Community College Dec. 16. Among them was Canastota resident Jay R. Torkelson, who earned a certificate in airframe and powerplant technology.

SUNY Potsdam Names Dean’s List Students

Kelly Snyder of Canastota, a childhood/early child education major, was named to the dean’s list at SUNY Potsdam. The State University of New York at Potsdam recently honored students who excelled academically in the fall 2010 semester by naming more than 400 students to the dean’s list.

To achieve the honor of being on the Dean’s List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours that semester with a grade point average of between 3.25 and 3.49.

SUNY Potsdam Names Area Students to President’s List

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently honored students who excelled academically in the fall 2010 semester by naming 850 students to the president’s list. Canastota residents named include Allison Forth, a childhood/early child ed major; Corey Hopkins, a music education major; and Rhimmon Simchy-Gross, a performance music major.
