4 Figure Study Workshops Scheduled Include Felting a Handbag

(Hamilton, NY – March 2011) MAD Art Winter Spring workshops continue with Drawing the Nude – Figure Study on March 2, 9, 23 and 30 at the Picker Art Gallery, Dana Arts Building, Colgate University.

Each week will begin with a short talk from a contemporary artist about his or her approach to the human figure. Adults of all skill levels are encouraged to learn from the artist and the nude model, Jackie Odell, how to capture the nude figure in their drawings.

The Picker Art Gallery, surrounded by art, is the perfect setting from which to draw inspiration. Materials needed are drawing paper, graphite pencil, conte crayon or other dry media appropriate for drawing in the gallery. Easels will be provided.

Also, on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Susanne Farrington will provide skillful guidance in making a wet felted handbag at the First Baptist Church in Hamilton. Create fabric by entangling sheep wool, add warm, soapy water, massage and enough time for the project to gradually coalesce.

Each participant will make a felt bag of colorful carded fleeces, resulting in a unique creation. All materials provided. Participants are asked to bring a thick bath towel, small scissors, an apron and a lunch or snacks. Wear comfortable shoes for standing.

For more information call Susanne at 315-824-1106.

Other upcoming classes include March 22, 29; April 5 – Clay Work “Boxes” with Cate Valk; April 2 – Introduction to Airbrush Painting with Mike Townsend; April 4 – Thai Cuisine with Leslie Yacavone; and June TBA – Plein Air Classes with Joyce Halliday Smith.
