(Albany, NY – Jan. 3, 2012) Senior Austin Smith continued to rake in the honors on Tuesday with his second-straight Fischer-Hockey ECAC Hockey Player of the Month award after 10 points in four games in December.

Smith led the Raiders to an unbeaten December with a 3-0-1 record. He
had 10 points on four goals and six assists. He posted goals in three
of the four games played and scored in all four. Smith scored two
goals, including the game-winner against Clarkson in a 4-2 win. He
also scored once and added three assists for four points in a 6-2
victory over St. Lawrence and assisted on Colgate’s lone goal in a 1-1
tie with No. 5 Merrimack on Dec. 10. He came off the break with a goal
and two assists against Canisius. Smith has scored in nine-straight
games and has 16 points during seven-game unbeaten streak for the
Raiders.

He leads the nation in points with 31 in 18 games this season and is
tops in the country in goals scored with 19. He has five multi-point
games during his nine-game point streak and has scored in all but one
game this season. Smith has nine multi-point games this season and has
three power play goals, five shorties and five gamewinners.

Colgate, which is in the top-10 in both polls for the first time this
season, will head to Michigan this weekend to play No. 17 Ferris State
in a two-game set, starting on Friday night.
