(Wampsville, NY – Dec. 23, 2011) The Madison County War Veterans Memorial Corp. held its 50/50 raffle Dec. 23. Members presented a check from the raffle to the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Herb Philipson’s Army/Navy store in Oneida.
Each year, the organization sells $1 tickets through veteran organizations such as the American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League and a few days a week during November and December at Herb Philipson’s – the only retail chain that still allows the organization to sell raffle tickets at its location.
“The store is glad to support veterans’ activities such as this,” said Herb Philipson’s Assistant Manager John Buffa. “It strengthens our relationship with the communities.”
The annual 50/50 raffle raises money to help offset costs for replacement flags, perennials and maintenance of our beautiful County Memorial in Wampsville; it also promotes awareness of our memorial and keeps veterans in our thoughts during the holiday season.
This year’s winning ticket, pulled Dec. 23 at Herb Philipson’s, was filled out for the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Syracuse by a generous donation. Robert Hawes accepted the donation on behalf of the VAMC and said it will be used in the “Wish List” fund to provide an array of needed services and assistance to veterans not otherwise provided for by VA funds.
