Calling all Youth for ‘The Oz Project’

(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 2012) Students at Colgate University are involved in The Oz Project, an inclusive and interactive theater workshop for children with and without special needs and is run by Colgate students and faculty.  The workshop is dedicated to exposing elementary school students to the exciting world of performing arts.

Overview: Through a fun-filled drama workshop, Colgate students engage children in improvisational acting games and creative movement exercises to help students build meaningful friendships, develop teamwork skills, and have a great time. We hope to appeal to all children, and the program will provide support for children with autism spectrum disorders and other disabilities. We will be performing a musical called “Character Matters: Lessons From Our Fairy Tale Friends.”

Who: We are calling attention to elementary school students who like to act and want to meet new kids!

Where: The Palace Theater, (19 Utica Street, Hamilton NY)

Why: The class started out with Colgate students wanting to address social issues revolving around children and their differences. Over the past couple of years, the Oz Project has flourished to incorporate many types of children, connecting them across various borders, through the art of theater.

When: The workshop will take place on the following Wednesday afternoons from 4-5:30 pm: 2/29, 3/7, 3/28, 4/4, 4/18, 4/25. The final performance will take place on 4/25 at 6 pm.
