Friendship Inn Expands to Cazenovia

Joins Morrisville, Hamilton Locations in Hunger Initiative

(Cazenovia, NY – March 2012) The Friendship Inn Cazenovia, a community outreach that is intended to enhance the lives of local residents by offering a free weekly meal in a welcoming atmosphere, will open its doors March 19 at 5:30 p.m.

This will be the third “Friendship Inn” in the local area. Morrisville and Hamilton each have a Friendship Inn in their communities. Morrisville State College and Colgate University, as well as local restaurants, shops, churches and community members provide the support needed to offer this service.

The Friendship Inn at Cazenovia is a united effort of community and Cazenovia College toward a common goal. Summit Church has graciously stepped forward to host the meal and to take the responsibility of organizing the weekly offering.

All are welcome; there is no income requirement or cut off. This is an opportunity to save a few dollars on your grocery bill while sharing a meal with family, friends and neighbors.

“Caring for the less fortunate is something we strive to instill in all of our students and employees at Cazenovia College,” said John Lehmann, director of dining at Cazenovia College. “So it is without hesitation that the College Dining Services has agreed to participate in and support Friendship Inn – a newly created prepared and perishable food program in the Cazenovia community. Providing assistance to families in the area that need help putting food on their table is a community endeavor worthy of the college’s participation and commitment.”

The weekly meals, beginning March 19, will be held every Monday night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The dinners will be held at Summit Church. Summit church is located at 3360 Thompson Road (corner of Route 13 and Thompson Road), Cazenovia.

“Starting a Friendship Inn in Cazenovia is a wonderful idea because many families in our area do not have enough food to eat,” said Gigi Redmond of CazCares. “Not only would families have a healthy meal but they would have the chance to sit down, relax and eat together without having to worry.”

While the Friendship Inn provides community outreach, there are many areas where help is needed. There is a “hands-on” need for help one night a month or every other month. Volunteers are needed for set-up, cooking, meal service and clean-up. Financial donations are always welcomed and needed.
