(Chittenango, NY – June 2012) It is once again time for the annual Oz-Stravaganza festival. Chittenango has hosted the Wizard of Oz-themed festival each year, as this is the birthplace of L. Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard of Oz series of books.
The festival is being held June 1 through 3.
The 34th annual festival boasts an amazing collection of guests, vendors, food, rides and a full slate of live entertainment options for fans who may be interested in something in addition to Oz. The free concerts and stage shows make this three-day festival one of the best family values in Central New York.
The festival is hosting entertainment at four locations this year. There is the Chittenango High School auditorium where there will be programs Friday and Saturday night featuring the special guests of the festival, including author Gregory Maguire of the popular “Wicked” series, Broadway legendary actor André De Shields, original Munchkin Actress Margaret Pellegrini and more.
At the fireworks stage on Legion Drive Friday, June 1, music starts at 6 p.m. featuring the Sarah Horner Band, the Rugburns and the fireworks display. Lawn chairs or blankets are suggested.
On Saturday, the Stickles Park gazebo at the intersection of Routes 5 and 13 will feature cartoon magician Mike Carter, the annual Wizard of Oz costume contest and pony rides for kids.
The Main Stage Lineup this year runs all three days and features a mix of musical styles and performers. Limited bleacher seating is available; lawn chairs and blankets are recommended. The main stage is located in Dr. West (‘Oz-Stravaganza’) Park.
Friday, June 1, begins with the Chittenango High School Select Choir at 4:45 p.m., local musician Shane Reed at 6 p.m., then headliner Mark Zane and Friends will take the stage, showcasing covers of favorites from the past few decades and original songs from their new CD “Walk It Off.”
Saturday, June 2, the main stage features local artists Aesh+Ryan at noon, followed by the Oz-Stravaganza parade. Following the parade and parade awards, the Hooky Brothers perform at 3:45 p.m., recording artist Vada March performs at 5 p.m., regional recording artist Fab Five Paul is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and Grayson Hugh headlines Saturday night.
Sunday, June 3, the main stage will host “Witches of Oz” Julia Goodwin and Char Byrne, this year’s Emerald City Idol winners, a special guest and the Chittenango High School Wind Ensemble led by Aaron Velardi. The festival’s grand finale will allow festival-goers to bid farewell to our 2012 Oz-Stravaganza guests.
All entertainment events are free; entertainment is sponsored this year by the Redwood Bar and Grill in Chittenango.
