Hamilton Public Library News

(Hamilton, NY – June 2012) Hamilton Public Library will host a book celebration and signing for local train aficionado John Taibi Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. This event will be held in the library’s Community Room and will introduce his most recent book about New York state railroads.

According to Taibi, Roads, Rivers, and Rails—the Delaware & Hudson’s Susquehanna Division Heritage Trail isn’t just a book about railroading; it’s a book about the Delaware & Hudson interacting with its environment of villages, businesses, people, highways and waterways. It’s also an historic and contemporary look at the old Delaware & Hudson and the new CPRail/Norfolk Southern systems.

This volume is the first in a two-part set and includes the Albany-Schenectady-to-Oneonta portion of the line. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

We are in the process of scheduling the last of our computer classes and will be contacting those who have been on waiting lists. There will be some opportunities to meet with trainers later in the day; on June 26, a trainer will be available from 1 to 6 p.m.

The library is looking for help with a couple of projects. We will be losing the gardening skills of Sarah Hasegawa at the end of June and hope to find someone else willing to occasionally weed the gardens around the library building.

Many of our Community Room padded chairs are in need of spot-cleaning. They can be cleaned at your convenience. The library will supply the cleaning materials. If anyone is interested in helping with either of these projects, call the library at (315) 824-3060.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the library at (315) 824-3060 during regular hours for assistance. The book drop on Broad Street is always open for your convenience. Visit midyorklib.org/wp/hamilton for up-to-date information about programs and special events.
