(Chittenango, NY – June 2012) The Chittenango Garden Club recently completed planting a native perennial garden at Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum.

The idea for the garden was conceived and approved last year and the members prepared the site by mulching the area last fall. This spring, the plants were purchased and Sunday, June 10; four members and their families planted the perennials so that it would be completed before this year’s Canal Fest.

Civic beautification is one of the garden club’s missions, and other sites in town include Stickles Park, Dr. West Memorial Park, Sullivan Free Library, the mall along Route 5 West, Recognition Park, a planter at the Post Office, CLCBM, Chittenango Rehabilitation Center (formerly Stonehedge Nursing Home), flagpoles at the American Legion and the Veterans Memorial at Oakwood Cemetery.

The Garden Club holds a plant sale every spring and a Holiday Bazaar every November to raise funds for their projects and appreciates the community’s support of these events. They also have monthly meetings held at Sullivan Free Library; notices are published in this paper, and anyone interested may attend. For more information, call 315.687.3296.
