Family Programs were a Success

The Hamilton Public Library recently hosted a reception in honor of Nike Bolte whose photographs are currently on display at the library. The exhibit, “Scenic Alaska–the Inner Passage” is available for viewing during library hours until the end of August.

(Hamilton, NY – July 2012) Hamilton Public Library hosted the last of their Wednesday afternoon family programs for the summer this past week. We could not have asked for a better day for an outdoor program full of old fashioned activities with dulcimer music playing in the background.

Children ran from bean bag toss and pin the sausage on the nose to pet animals from Heritage Farm. Community donated cardboard rolls and boxes were transformed into clever creations and children waited patiently for their turn to have their faces painted.

Little ones played with the rubber ducks in the wading pond and blew bubbles while others tried their hand at a clothespin drop activity or sidewalk chalk drawing. Everyone was invited to take a guess at the number of Skittles in the jar.

Still others moved inside to try their hand at some crafts.

The Friends of the Library provided ice cream sundaes for 160 people at the end of the program and for the first time, the ice cream supply ran out at the same time as the last person in line received their treat.

All of this was made possible only because of the number of volunteers who generously gave of their time and talent. We could not have done it without their help.

Special thanks go to Susan Beattie, Kathy Buck, Jill and Dave Buran, Heather Cigeroglu, Amanda Coger, Lily Festa, Ryan Gannon, the Gisler family, Hillary Hanson, Heritage Farm, Kerry Linden, Margaret Miller, Susan Nolen,  Maria Parenti, Eileen Pecan, Lizzie Pratt, Caitlin Purdy, Jonah Richards, Emily Robinson, and Anne Marie and Lauren Weeks.

Hamilton Public Library will be closing at 6 p.m. on Friday Aug. 3 but will be open as usual the rest of the week.
