(Munnsville, NY – Aug. 2, 2012) Several fire departments are on the scene of a major structure fire at the Munnsville Hotel in the village of Munnsville. The fire was reported at about 9:30 p.m.
Munnsville is on the scene, with ladder backup requested from the city of Sherrill, rescue units from Canastota, as well as support from Smithfield, Morrisville, Oneida and Hamilton. Georgetown has been asked to move up and man the Morrisville station.
There is no word of any injuries at this time. At 10:25 p.m., firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building. At 10:32 p.m., some were allowed to re-enter to try and knock down what was referred to as heavy fire in the attic area.
As of 10:33 p.m., Red Cross Disaster Services was en route to the scene, and Cazenovia was moving up to cover Smithfield’s station.
Power has been cut to the building, and firefighters report the majority of the fire in the attic has been knocked down.
There may be more than one fire involved in the structure.
At 10:40 p.m., Verona was called to provide air van support.
