Aug. 18 is Deadline to get 10 Hours in

Morrisville Public Library News

(Morrisville, NY – Aug. 2012) Our summer reading program, “Dream Big: Read” is almost over. Be sure to keep reading. Kids must read at least 10 hours before Saturday, Aug. 18, to be invited to our summer reading graduation. Adults – just read and turn in your book reviews for a chance to win a gift basket.

This Friday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday is our Teen Lock-In at the Library. Stay up all night if you are a teen (13 and over) and watch movies, eat pizza, play the Wii, tell spooky stories and, best of all, walk down to the cemetery after dark for a scavenger hunt.

You must fill out a permission slip by Monday, Aug. 6, if you wish to attend or bring a parent or guardian the night of the lock in to do it then.

We are also looking for donations of food and drinks for the lock-in. If you are interested, inquire at the circulation desk.

Join us for Things that Go Bump in the Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15. Come read lots of silly books about monsters. If you could create a monster, would it have three eyes? Horns? How about five slimy legs? Show us how creative you can be as we design our very own monsters.

On Friday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m., we will be having fun with Creatures of the Night. Come learn about animals that only come out to play at night. We’ll make masks and puppets, as well as a matching game for you to take home and play.

If you read at least 10 hours during our summer reading program you are invited to our graduation party Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Prizes, t-shirts, certificates and ice cream sundaes.

We need oatmeal containers, so if you have any, drop them off to the library at your earliest convenience. We appreciate the help.

Michelle Rounds is library manager for the Morrisville Public Library. The library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
