(Town of Sullivan, NY – Aug.  2012) Christian Lawton of Barton & Loguidice reported that bids for the Bridgeport Sewer District are in and the project is under budget. That news means that every home in the district will receive its own grinder pump now, eliminating the need for neighbors to share them and figure out the credits for the homes supplying the power to the units.

Lawton reviewed the list of contractors, their assigned areas and very preliminary construction kickoff schedule.

He said the $1.3 million savings will be added to the contingency budget line to fund the additional grinder pumps.

“So everyone is getting a grinder pump now,” said Supervisor John M. Becker, confirming Lawton’s statement.

“Sharing had been the subject of much contention, and at $2,100 per grinder pump, that’s a 60-percent savings,” Lawton said, adding that U.S. Rural Development and the Environmental Facilities Corporation had cleared everything. “Construction should begin shortly after Labor Day … in the hamlet, the end of September.”

According to Lawton, the contractor handling the pump station work would like to begin by the end of August, but he felt that might be too soon to get the remaining documentation in order.

“There will be a lot of work in September,” Lawton said. “It’s been a long road and a real team effort by the town board.”
