(Oneida, NY – Aug. 2012) This Aug. 30 in Oneida, 25 young ladies from the Community Action Partnership (CAP) Mentoring Program were sent back to school in style after a night of pampering inside and out at the program’s 5th annual Girls Night Out event.

The evening, hosted at The Madison-Oneida ARC’s Winoa Hall, began with the now traditional Second Hand Fashion Show.  The girls showed off their back-to-school fashions on a red carpet runway before a crowd of cheering mentors, parents, staff and friends. Many girls modeled name brand clothes purchased at local thrift stores for a fraction of their original cost, proving that you don’t have to break the bank to be fashion forward.

The night continued with a presentation by Liberty Resources’ Melissa Jacobs on healthy relationships.  Jacobs, a former volunteer mentor, helped attendees discover what they look for in friendships as well as how to be a good friend.

After the presentation, participants received the star treatment at a number of pampering stations, including hair styling, manicures, healthy snacks, Wii dance, limo rides and a shopping table overflowing with donated back-to-school items.  Each station was operated by a generous volunteer or local professional who donated time and products to the event.

“This event is a lot of fun for all,” says Mentoring Program Manager JoAnne Morak, “but more importantly, it is an opportunity to celebrate the young women in our program and hopefully send them back to school feeling great inside and out!”

The program is planning its annual Guys Retreat this Fall.
