Rachel’s Challenge Planned for Oct. 1 through 3

Chittenango Rotary Club News

(Town of Sullivan, NY – Oct. 2012) The Chittenango Rotary Club and the Chittenango School District are teaming up to make a difference in our community.  The Rotary club initiated “Rachel’s Challenge” and is the major donor.

Rachel Joy Scott was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999.  From her writings and her life example, a character development program was written to encourage students and communities in acts of kindness.

Rachel believed that one act of kindness would be like a chain reaction and could change the world.

From Oct. 1 through 3, there will be assemblies and training for our kindergarten through 12th-grade students  from the Rachel’s Challenge organization.

You are all invited to our Community Event Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Chittenango High School. Come hear the story about Rachel and how you can make a difference in our community.

Thank you for all the community support, local churches, PTA involvement and support from the school administration; I hope to see you there.

For more information, visit rachelschallenge.org.

Marilyn Anderson is president of the Chittenango Rotary Club.

Who would’ve thought something good could come out of the Columbine shooting? We are lucky to have this program come to the Chittenango School District. It’s good to be reminded of the ripple effects of kindness. Thank you to the school officials and Rotary and others who are sponsoring Rachel’s Challenge.
