(Oneida, NY – Oct. 2012) The Madison Cortland ARC and the Building Futures Foundation will be honoring Ray Lewandowski for his 40 years of service at Madison Cortland ARC with a special event Friday, Oct. 12, at the Kallet Civic Center in Oneida.

“Casino Rayale” will be held with proceeds benefiting the Building Futures Foundation.

Lewandowski is the executive director for Madison Cortland ARC; however, his career of helping people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities started in direct care as an evaluator.  Throughout his career, Lewandowski has helped thousands of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. As a fierce advocate, one of his proudest moments was when the days of institutionalization came to an end.

“It’s all about people,” Lewandowski  said. “Institutions were dark places and had no place in our society. I am proud to have been a part of the movement to close institutions and to help people live in and be a part of their community.”

Under Lewandowski’s leadership, the Madison Cortland ARC has grown to serve more than 1,000 people in Madison and Cortland counties. The Madison Cortland ARC also has a subsidiary business Alternatives Industry that provides vocational training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

“When it comes to helping people with disabilities, Ray is one of the most caring and dedicated people I know,” said Mary Patricia, president, Madison Cortland ARC. “The ARC has been his life, and he cares deeply about the cause, he cares about families, his staff and about helping others.”

“I have known Ray for a little more than 10 years now,” said Rob Urtz, president, Building Futures Foundation. “I am thrilled that we are able to honor a man who has helped so many people, who has made a difference in our community and who is a humble man that asks for little in return.”
