(Utica, NY – Sept. 2012)  Along with excelling on the playing field, Mohawk Valley Community College athletes achieve high standards in the classroom. The Hawks’ athletic programs captured three National Junior College Athletic Association national championships this year with the crowning jewel being seven athletes earning Academic All-American status.

Four of the seven athletes selected participated in two sports ranging from Women’s Soccer to Track and Field. The average Grade Point Average for these athletes is 3.82.

Locally, MVCC’s Academic All-Americans are: Mary Russo from Canastota who is a graduate of Canastota High School. Russo competed in Women’s Cross Country and Maizie Zamlowski from and is a graduate of Chittenango High School. Zamlowski competed in Women’s Soccer and Women’s Lacrosse.
