(Canastota, Town of Lenox, NY – Oct. 2012) The Great Swamp Conservancy (GSC) has been awarded $20,000 from the Gorman Foundation for the beginning of the transformation of the barn into a Community Outreach Center and Natural History Museum.
The funding will cover the cost of siding, repairing the rear wall, a new door in the rear, framing the walls, and insulation. This is the first step in completing the project, and additional funding is being sought.
This project has been a long-term goal of GSC founder Michael J. Patane. The project will help the GSC grow and become self-sustaining. The Community Outreach Center/Natural History Museum will allow the GSC to host year-round events, programs and other activities in a heated facility, increasing the capacity of the GSC to serve the community.
