(Canastota, NY – Oct. 2012) The 2012 New York State FBLA District 7 Fall Conference was held at the Utica School of Commerce, Utica campus, Friday, Oct. 26.  Seventeen Canastota High School members attended along with over 175 other members from throughout Madison, Oneida, and Herkimer counties.

Jacob Fleming, a Canastota High School sophomore, coordinated and presided over the meeting.  Fleming is serving the 2012 – 2013 school year as the NYS FBLA District 7 State Vice President.

Eight workshops were presented to the membership in attendance on topics such as “Public Speaking,” “Resume and Portfolio Preparation,” “Professional Image,” “What Does Success Mean to You,” “Advertising and Marketing” and several others.

Several professionals from the area presented workshops to the membership. In addition, Canastota members, Joe Vaccaro, John Nirelli, Hafeezah Lewis, Ariel Orcutt and Derick Trost presented workshops on “Fundraising,” “FBLA 411” and “Parliamentary Procedure.”

Trost and Orcutt participated in the Battle of the Best competition.  Canastota placed first in the Coin Crazy competition where District 7 raised close to $300 for the NYS FBLA Foundation.  The following Canastota members were appointed to serve as District 7 officers:  Paul Gregoris  – Treasurer,  Derick Trost – Assistant to the SVP, Nichole Delaney – Secretary, and Hafeezah Lewis, Historian

The next district meeting will be held Feb. 1 at the Herkimer BOCES site.

Nov. 15 to18, four members from the Canastota High School chapter will travel to Charlotte, NC to attend the National Fall Leadership Conference. At this conference, members will experience networking opportunities, amazing general sessions, energetic keynote speakers, professional workshops, and so much more. It is an event that brings together members from all over our region and the nation together in one place to attend the various workshops coordinated by the National Association of FBLA-PBL.
