Oneida County 4-H Members to be Recognized

(Stanwix Heights, NY – Nov. 2012) On Saturday Nov 17 Oneida County 4-H Members will gather at the Stanwix Heights Fire Hall to attend the 4-H Achievement Banquet.  The event recognizes 4-H youth for their accomplishments in the Animal Sciences of: Horse, Beef, Goat, Dog, Rabbit, Swine and Dairy.

Awards in Personal Development are given to those who have shown exceptional involvement in Leadership and Community Service.  All recipients of these Project Medals have met or surpassed a set of criteria that requires Record Keeping, Public Speaking, Volunteerism and a face to face interview with a panel of adult volunteers.

After all applicants are interviewed the volunteers select one 4-H Member to receive the Outstanding Animal Award and one to receive the Outstanding Personal Development Award. The winners of the Outstanding Awards will be announced at the banquet.

Green Thumb awards will be presented to the youth who entered the Pumpkin/Sunflower contest held at Ace Hardware in Rome and sponsored by the TGOA/MGCA & Gardeners of Rome, and for the youth who entered the Giant Zucchini Contest at this year’s Oneida County Boonville Fair.

A representative of United Cerebral Palsy New Discoveries Learning Center, Chadwicks  will be in attendance to receive over 30 Holiday Stockings, filled with items donated by 4-H members.  In addition to the stockings, 4-H Members who were learning about Fiber Science, will be donating over 30 pair of mittens that were created by recycling old sweaters.
