(Cazenovia, NY- Nov. 2012) During the Nov. 11 Veterans Day luncheon at the Cazenovia American Legion Post 88, Boys State participants Joseph Colligan and Andrew Sparks along with Girls State participant Emily Stoker were honored.
These Boys State and Girls State participants were selected from the top 50 percent of the Cazenovia Central School’s junior class. Selection serves as a testimony to their character and leadership skills.
These summer educational programs, sponsored by The American Legion, are held on various college campuses. They help develop leadership and pride in American citizenship and arouse a keen interest in the detailed study of government. Overall activity focus is on the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy.
The American Legion wants to help these young leaders to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to their community, state and nation.
“We are proud of these students and we hope that we have supported their parents and school by enabling them to attend a rewarding and educational program” said Commander Mott.
