(Chittenango, NY – Jan. 16, 2013) Chittenango’s Head Coach Curt Kielbasa’s young grapplers continued to turn heads this past week as the Bears won back to back matches away on Tuesday by defeating Hannibal 38-37 and again at home Jan 9th nudging Syracuse ITC 37-35.

Both nights the Bears trailed in points going into the final match needing a pin to win. That was the case Wednesday against ITC but Tuesday at Hannibal in the final match, all the pressure fell on the shoulders of sophomore Matt Bixby after a win by teammate Tyler Lewis, who rose to the occasion with a whopping 16-4 decision over of his opponent.

That left the teams tied and the team winner had to be decided by dual meet tiebreaker criteria. After a lengthy consultation at the scorer’s table, Chittenango was declared the victors based on the ninth level of criteria established for breaking a tie.

Typical Tie Breaker Criteria for Dual Meets

In dual-meet competition, if teams have identical scores, the following team tie-breaking system shall be used to determine the winner.

1. Least number of team points deducted for flagrant or unsportsmanlike conduct.

2. Greater number of matches won.

3. Greater number of points for fall, defaults, forfeits or disqualifications.

4. Greater number of points for technical falls.

5. Greater number of points for major decisions.

6. Greater number of first-points scored.

7. Greater number of points for near-falls.

8. Greater number of take-downs.

9. Greater number of reversals.

10. Greater number of escapes.

11. Fewer penalties for stalling.

12. Fewer stall warnings.

13. Fewer number of points for other infractions.

14. Flip of a disk.
