(Canastota, NY – Feb. 2013) On Monday Feb. 11 at 7 pm the Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will host “Lost Industries of Madison County” by county historian Matt Urtz at the Canastota Public Library.

The talk will focus on industries that have come and gone in Madison County. Urtz will trace early 19th century Madison County industry all the way through the 20th century.  The county had a number of prominent industries that are longer around including glass production, steam engine production, tower clock production, cigar manufacturing, along with many more.  Numerous photos will be shown, as well as the stories behind these industries.

With great enthusiasm, Urtz tackles his job of preserving and educating others about the importance of local history. He also serves on the Cabinet of Freedom for the National Abolitionist Hall of Fame and Museum, on the Archives Committee for the Central New York Library Resource Council and as a Regional Coordinator for the Association of Public Historians in New York State.

There is no charge for the event.
