) On Thursday March 7 at 7 p.m. the Canastota Public Library will host the talk “From Rosie the Riveter to Harriet the Happy Homemaker: Women on Screen During and After World War II” by Rob Edelman.
Edelman is a lecturer in film history at the University at Albany. This presentation celebrates March as Women’s History Month, but because of the format it will be of interest to both women and men.
The event is co-sponsored by the Canastota Canal Museum with the support of the New York Council for the Humanities and is free to the public.
The presentation shows the changing roles for and expectations of women that are depicted in the era’s Hollywood movies. A range of clips will accompany this lecture from films of the 1940s and 50s, all of which illustrate the manner in which women were expected to act during and after the World War II.
My father, Herman Bieling was a tool maker that taught Rosie the Riviters in Auburn and at the Easy Washing machine company in Syracuse.
