FrankGiotto copy(Utica, NY – Feb. 26, 2013) Frank Giotto has been named the recipient of the 2012 “Business Person of the Year” by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Giotto will receive his award at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, April 23, at Harts Hill Inn at  noon.

The event will also feature Robert M. Simpson, president and chief executive officer at CenterState CEO, as the keynote speaker.

The “Business Person of the Year” Award is given to an individual who has shown exemplary service to the Chamber and/or community. The individual must be a chamber member, or an employee of a chamber member, in good standing.

Frank Giotto is president and founder of Giotto Enterprises, which is composed of nine companies that employ 350 people in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York.

In 1985, Giotto founded the largest of these companies, Fiber Instrument Sales, Inc. Located in the FIS Research Park in Oriskany, FIS has grown to be a leading distributor and manufacturer of hundreds of fiber optic products including, cable assemblies, connectors, and test equipment. The company serves customers throughout the U.S. and in 110 countries worldwide.

Giotto has received numerous honors including the Utica College Alumni Achievement Award (2006), the Mohawk Valley Community College Alumnus of Merit Award (2002), and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst and Young (2001). Also, FIS was named the Business of the Year by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2001.

Giotto’s business achievements have been chronicled by national news media, including CNN, NBC and the New York Times, all of which have featured his invention for travelers, “The Mini Motel,” also known as “The Sleep Pod.”
