(Canastota, NY – March 2013McCullough, Wayne) The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced former bantamweight champion Wayne “Pocket Rocket” McCullough will make his first visit to Canastota for festivities planned for the 24th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 6 to 9.

“McCullough was an aggressive, crowd-pleasing fighter,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are really looking forward to welcoming him to Canastota for the first time to experience Hall of Fame Weekend.”

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, an accomplished amateur, McCullough won gold at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and silver at the 1992 Olympic Games. He turned pro in 1993 and began a steady march to the world bantamweight title. McCullough won the NABF title in 1994 before annexing the WBC crown from Yasuei Yakushiji in Japan in 1995. He successfully defended against Johnny Bredahl (TKO 8) and Jose Luis Bueno (W 12) before vacating to campaign at super bantamweight in 1997. The “Pocket Rocket,” who was trained by Hall of Famer Eddie Futch, last fought in 2008 and has a record of 27-7 (18 KOs).
