Bookstore hosts camping-themed program for kids

By Heather Elia

(Hamilton, NY – April 2013scaredycamping) The Colgate Bookstore will host an indoor camping book party on Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. in the Class of 2003 Events Room (third floor) at 3 Utica Street.  This program is free and open to children of all ages, although the stories are mainly geared towards ages 4-8. The event is free, but space will be limited to 30 participants and advance sign-up is recommended at 315-228-6944 or www.colgatebookstore.com/camping.

Stories about the frustrations and joys of venturing into the “wilderness” and sleeping under the stars will be followed by: a Campfire Pokey song & game, a tent craft, and a snack of s’mores cookies. Children are encouraged (but not required) to bring a sleeping bag, and they’ll have a chance to pose by the tent and “campfire”.

The featured stories will include:

Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping by Melanie Watt. Scaredy Squirrel is not comfortable with the idea of camping unless it’s on his couch, watching a camping show on his new TV. But first Scaredy must find an electrical outlet, and that means going into the woods! Will the nutty worrywart’s plans prepare him for the great outdoors, or will his adventure end up as a scary story told around the campfire?

Maisy Goes Camping by Lucy Cousins. When Maisy sets off to go camping, it’s only natural that all her friends come along, too. But they soon find that pitching a tent is not an easy thing to do.

Please contact the Bookstore at (315) 228-6944 with any questions.
