(Remsen, NY – May 4, 2013) State Police in Remsen arrested 49-year-old Dan Austin of Joslyn Road, Town of Remsen for Aggravated DWI with a child in the vehicle, (Leandra’s Law), a Class E Felony, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor, and numerous V&T charges stemming from a one-car accident on Countryman Road in the Town of Remsen.

On Saturday night at approximately 8:35 p.m. Austin was traveling northwest on Countryman Road when he failed to negotiate a left turn in the roadway, exited the north shoulder, drove through someone’s front yard and struck a tree.

Austin left the scene of the accident but was located shortly after by the State Police, and a thorough investigation revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Austin recorded a blood alcohol content of .19 percent and was subsequently arrested for aggravated DWI with a child under the age of 16 in the car, also known as Leandra’s law, endangering the welfare of a child, unsafe speed and leaving the scene of an accident.

Austin was arraigned in the Town of Trenton Court and sent do Oneida County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash/$10,000 bail bond, and is to reappear in court at a later date.
