MTS--BWBudget Constraints Culprit for Transportation Cessation

(Madison County, NY -May 2013) As has been previously reported in various news outlets, effective May 31, the Madison Transit System will cease operation. Madison Transit operates Route Deviation and On-Demand public bus service throughout Madison County.

Despite efforts made in the past three to four years to improve service, enhance collaboration and leverage resources, budget constraints have forced Madison County to make the difficult decision to end MTS service effective May 31.

We are working with partners Birnie Bus and the state Department of Transportation to determine if some level of bus service may be possible in the future; however, current service will officially cease the end of May.

Madison County will keep the public informed as this effort progresses. Any comments, questions, or concerns can be directed to the Madison County Planning Department at 315-366-2376 and updates will be posted to www.ridemts.org and www.madisoncounty.ny.gov/planning/transportation.
