Cazenovia High School Makes Newsweek’s list of America’s Best High Schools

(Cazenovia, NY – May 2013) Cazenovia High School is one of 10 schools in Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES included in Newsweek’s list of America’s Best High Schools for 2013, released May 6.

Compiled by Newsweek and The Daily Beast, the list highlights the 2,000 public high schools in the nation that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates.

Cazenovia ranked 903, the third-highest out of all OCM BOCES schools, behind Fayetteville-Manlius at 606 and Jamesville-DeWitt at 561.

“It’s gratifying for the rest of the nation to see what we’ve known all along here at home,” Superintendent Robert Dubik said. “That a Cazenovia High School diploma is a ticket to limitless possibilities.”

Using data collected in a survey of more than 2,500 schools, the news organizations based the list on six components: graduation rate (25 percent), college acceptance rate (25 percent), Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB scores (10 percent), and percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB course (5 percent).

Charles W. Baker High School: 1,068

West Genesee High School: 1,287

Marcellus Senior High School: 1,502

East Syracuse Minoa Central High School: 1,564

Cicero-North Syracuse High School: 1,621

Marathon Junior-Senior High School, 1,846
