(Morrisville, NY – May 13, 2013) Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, announced Kevin Krogol has been named head coach of the men’s ice hockey program for the 2013-14 season.
“The opportunity to bring Kevin into the position as head coach has all of us at Morrisville State very excited. As a one season interim head coach this past year he led the team to a particularly strong finish, and I know the program is feeling that momentum moving forward into next year,” said Athletic Director Greg Carroll.
“Across the entire athletics program we have committed ourselves to the recruitment of students with outstanding character. Following the national search process he emerged as the best person for the job and has exceeded expectations already with the incoming class of recruits for this fall.”
Krogol spent the previous five seasons with the Morrisville State hockey program, serving as an assistant coach for a majority of that time, and most recently fulfilling the interim head coach role for the 2012-13 season.
“I’m very excited to be given the chance to continue as head coach at Morrisville State. It’s a terrific opportunity, and I believe we have all the support and tools needed to be a successful program,” said Krogol.
This past fall he guided Morrisville State to an overall 4-19-2 record, 4-12 record within State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, where four earned SUNYAC Players of the Week recognition, and one all-conference accolades.
For four seasons as assistant with the Mustang program, Krogol worked specifically with the forwards and penalty kill, in addition to off-ice duties of recruiting throughout the Northeast and Canadian Territories, to go along with scouting, video analysis, academic coordination and strength training and development.
“I’m grateful to Kevin for the commitment he demonstrated to the college and the hockey program throughout this process,” Carroll said of Krogol’s dedication to the institution and program during the search.
“It speaks volumes about who he is and what he will bring to Mustang hockey and the athletics program, not just this upcoming season, but in future years as well.”
Aside from coaching, Krogol also spearheaded several charity events and community service initiatives with the program, including awareness and fundraising campaigns for Autism Awareness and Special Olympics.
Krogol played college hockey for ECAC West power Utica College as a forward from 2003 – 2007, serving as captain his senior season. In 78 games, he tallied 19 goals and 12 assists, as Utica made appearances in the ECAC West play-offs each season. In 2005 they captured the ECAC West regular season championship title.
He earned his baccalaureate degree in management and marketing from Utica in 2007.
Prior to joining the Pioneers, Krogol spent four seasons as a forward in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), a Tier II Junior A League, two seasons each with the Danville Wins and Soo Indians.
The Livonia, Michigan native continues to be active in the community, serving as an instructor for various hockey clinics throughout the area, including the Blue Line Hockey School. He previously served as an instructor for the Heenan Hockey Schools in Utica, and was an assistant coach in 2010 for the Empire State Games.
“I look forward to the challenge of leading the program in the right direction as a quality competitor within Division III and the SUNYAC,” stated Krogol.
