Completes Community Service Project in Chittenango
(Chittenango, Cazenovia, NY – May 2013) The Chittenango Creek no
w has a newly installed universally accessible fish dock to allow those with limited access to fish thanks to David Martellock, 18, of Cazenovia. It was his Eagle Scout project.
Through the delegation of his team and determination, Martellock’s project was a success, and fulfills the community service requirement needed for advancing to Eagle Scout rank. Eagle is the pinnacle of achievement and leadership in Scouting.
When asked about his project Martellock said, “I thoroughly enjoy logistics, planning and leading. This was the most difficult project I have completed thus far, and quite a test of my leadership skills. I focused on communication, streamlining the workday for the volunteers and on overall morale. I enjoy leading and my eagle project was immensely fulfilling.”
Martellock and his team of Scouts and adult leaders gathered all the necessary materials and worked diligently on building the dock. The project was funded by Cazenovia Rotary Club and Chapter 680 of Trout Unlimited.
Achieving Eagle rank is never easy, but for every Scout that receives his badge, it is a defining moment he will remember for the rest of his life. When asked about what being an Eagle means to him Martellock said, “Being an Eagle Scout is an honor. Achieving Eagle represents the culmination of being a Scout. Looking back upon the myriad adventures and the friends I’ve made, every campfire I’ve sat around, and every step on every trail that I have made, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Scouting has been an incredible experience.”
Martellock attends Cazenovia High School. In the fall he plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology to study mechanical engineering.
