(Vernon, NY – June 2013) Vernon Town Park now has a new announcement board thanks to Joseph Brown, 18, of Vernon Center. It was his Eagle Scout project. Through the delegation of his team and determination, his project was a success, and fulfills the community service requirement needed for advancing to Eagle Scout rank. Eagle is the pinnacle of achievement and leadership in Scouting.

When asked about his project Brown said, “It was rewarding to be a leader and see a project come full circle under my direction. The only major obstacle was planning ahead to ensure that all the necessary equipment was in place and every Scout had a task. I was fortunate enough to receive a Lowe’s grant to purchase materials for my project. ”

Achieving Eagle rank is never easy, but for every Scout that receives his badge, it is a defining moment he will remember for the rest of his life. When asked about what being an Eagle means to him, Brown said, “Being an Eagle gives me not only the pleasure of being  part of the elite, but holds my responsibility and personal conduct [standards] to a higher level. It means I can provide leadership and complete any task that I set out to do. I want to remain active in Scouting to continue to give back to a group and community that has given me so much. ”

Brown currently attends VVS High School. In the fall he will be attending D’Youville College in Buffalo to study nursing.
