(Remsen, NY – July 13, 2014) On July 13 State Police in Remsen responded to a reported missing hiker from the Black River Wild Forest Trailhead (S-71) off Bear Creek Road in the Town of Forestport, Herkimer County.
Investigation revealed that Donald A. Combs, age 84, from Sauquoit left a note with family members on Thursday, July 10 that he was going camping near there and would be home by Friday or Saturday.
Comb’s vehicle was located one quarter mile from Bear Creek Road on the trail; however he could not be located. Family members then contacted 911.
The area was searched by the New York State Police along with the New York State Forest Rangers; however the search has been stopped due to darkness. Troopers along with Forest Rangers will resume tomorrow morning.
