(Canastota, NY. September 2015)– An installation ceremony was held on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Graziano’s Restaurant for incoming officers of the Canastota Lions Club.

Lion Jeffrey Huss was elected as the club president for 2015/2016. King Lion Huss has been an active member of the Canastota Lions Club for the past 4 years. Lion Christine Ohern  was elected to serve as the new club secretary. The club’s vice-presidents installed were Lion Terry McKay, Lion Wynne Shaul. Lion Vic Kopnitsky was installed as the Treasurer, Board Members installed were Lion Peg Buzzard, Lion Biff Cerio, Lion Sukosh Fearon. Lion Dave Malbouf was installed as Tail Twister. Lion Don Stich was installed as Lion Tamer.

According to King Lion Jeffrey Huss, “I am looking forward to leading various projects and continuing the Canastota Lion Club’s commitment to serving the community.”

Since the club’s chartering in 1947, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as Canastota Public Library, Children’s Eye Screening, Loaves & Fishes, Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, Eye Exam & Glasses Assistance, Opportunity Shop, Children’s Christmas Party, Canastota Area Association of Churches, Welcome to Canastota Highway Signs, Oneida City Hospital Auxiliary, Canastota Canal Town, Wanderer’s Rest Humane Association, Carlo Raineri’s Community Emergency Fund, Hearing aids, and Preschool eye screening. President McKay is Chairman of the eye screening. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to Scholarships given out each year at the high school and the local soup kitchens. The club is currently working on a new fund raiser this year, selling Christmas Trees and Wreaths at Seneca Trails Garden Center starting the day after Thanksgiving! We will also be holding our annual Turkey Raffle/Pasta Dinner on November 20th at Rusty Rail Banquet House.

The Canastota Lions Club has 42 members and meets on 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Canastota Library. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
