image006Applications are currently being accepted for the Bright Futures Education Program. The free program is designed to enable students to complete their high school education while further preparing them for higher education and vocational careers. Young adults aged 18 through 20 years of age, no longer attending high school, are eligible to participate in the program.

The Bright Futures Education Program is an affiliate of the Children’s Home of Jefferson County made possible by a grant from Knorr-Bremse Global Care and New York Air Brake. Application packets are available by calling 315-783- 8172 or emailing BrightFutures@nnychildrenshome.com. Completed applications must be submitted no later than Friday, August 19, 2016.

The Bright Futures Education Program combines the curriculum students need to pass a high school equivalency exam, along with special assistance to meet the needs of each individual student. Program classes will be held during daytime hours at the Boys and Girls Club of the North Country SoZo Teen Center, Marcy Building, 171 Polk Street, downtown Watertown.

To expose the students to real-world employment factors and situations including workplace training, employer expectations, and job ethics, the program will also include partnerships with mentors from local businesses. Each student will be matched with a volunteer corporate mentor providing support, encouragement, and career modeling. Bright Futures will provide students with school day breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Funds will also be used to help students cover the cost of clothing and supplies. Bright Futures’ students will also participate in one-on- one mentoring sessions with corporate partners, visit and tour local businesses, attend corporate training sessions and meetings, and fill internships at local companies. They will also have the ability to be compensated for achieving program goals.
