10-7-animals-of-halloween-10-15Meet crepuscular and nocturnal forest creatures during “Animals of Halloween” beginning at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne. Hosted by Friends of Rogers, this unique evening features wilderness visits with unique animals who have unusual sleeping habits.

Crepuscular species, active both in the day and at night, are often erroneously referred to as nocturnal. Nocturnal creatures have a highly developed sense of hearing, smell, and specially adapted eyesight, traits that are helpful in avoiding predators. Some animals have eyes that can adapt to both low-level and bright day levels of illumination.

Others can function only at night. Learn more about these fascinating creatures during Animals of Halloween!

“We’re excited to host this annual celebration for our Central New York community,” said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers executive director. “The engaging activities, interactive demonstrations and live music we have lined up will appeal to guests of all ages.”

Thanks to Gilligan’s Island in Sherburne, tasty refreshments will be available for purchase, and Friends of Rogers will be selling campfire s’mores for roasting.

“‘Animals of Halloween’ is the perfect opportunity to experience outdoor autumn adventures,” said Sarah Freedman, Friends of Rogers environmental educator. “We hope the festivities allow visitors to have a renewed sense of connection to nature.”
