The Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce has named The United Way of Greater Oneida Member of the Month for April. In August of 1980, the Community Chest of Oneida became The United Way of Greater Oneida, Inc.

There have been many changes over time but the basic premise has remained the same – to raise the money necessary to provide services to those in need. All the money raised here STAYS local – They are independent of any other United Way.

As our local United Way, they support the programs of 15 different non-profit agencies in the Greater Oneida/ Madison County Area that are all doing great work in our community. Their Mission is To create a stronger, healthier and safer community through the identification, selection and funding of agencies that best provide programs and services to those in our community with the greatest needs.

The annual campaign kicks off in September and continues until the goal is met.

The campaign consists of a Kick-Off Luncheon and a mailing to local individuals and businesses who have supported the United Way for many years. In addition, materials are provided to local businesses who distribute to their employees and facilitate contributions to the United Way by withholding their donation from their paycheck.

These withholdings are then sent to the United Way. The following businesses partner with the United Way by allowing their employees the opportunity to contribute to the local campaign AmeriCU, A.R.I.S.E., Community Action Partnership, Community Bank, CPP-Syracuse, Family Counseling Services, Hartman Enterprises, Heritage Farm, HP Hood, Liberty Resources, Madison Cortland ARC, Madison County, NBT Bank, OneGroup, Oneida Area Day Care Center, Oneida City School District, Oneida Healthcare, Oneida Molded Plastics, Price Chopper, The City of Oneida and Walmart.

The Member of the Month program is part of an ongoing effort by the Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce to honor a deserving member business each month for their contribution to the quality of life and economy of our community.
