Oneida Public Library

While the elementary, middle and high schools go on spring recess, April 17-21,Oneida Public Library will have some special programming that should appeal to students of all ages, including a Teen Coffee House April 18, a showing of the film “Hidden Figures” April 19, spring crafts April 20 and an Earth Day celebration April 21.

For the Teen Coffee House on Tuesday, April 18, at 12:30 p.m., Youth Coordinator Megan Gillander has devised a simple visual way for teenagers to “channel their inner poets” by creating “book spine poems,” using book titles culled from the library’s shelves to form spontaneously “found” poems. Refreshments will be served.

The recently released film version of the book “Hidden Figures,” which tells the stories of three African-American women who successfully worked as mathematicians on NASA space exploration programs, provides family entertainment on Wednesday, April 19, at 5:30.

Elementary-school students can hurry the spring along with Spring Crafts on Thursday, April 20, at 11:30 a.m. Megan Gillander will provide the materials and the guidance for make-and-take crafts.

Though a day earlier than the official international Earth Day, OPL’s celebration of Earth Day on Friday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m. will put elementary-school students in the mood with stories, crafts and a curious scavenger hunt.

The programs are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Megan Gillander at 315-363-3050, or stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St.
