When people think about what is inside their local library, books and computers are probably the first things that come to mind. In the Mid-York Library system, you will find there are a number of unique items available at local libraries.
The libraries in Bridgeport and Morrisville have Madison County Landfill Punch cards for sale during library hours.
The Canastota, Chittenango and Clinton libraries loan projectors and movie screens, while Jervis in Rome has a karaoke machine you can borrow.
Cazenovia, Oneida and Jordanville lend chrome books with hotspots so you don’t need an internet connection to use them.
Fishing poles can be found at the Basloe (Herkimer), Cazenovia, Dolgeville-Manheim, Jervis Middleville and Newport libraries.
Canastota and Clinton are home to Seed Exchanges, where you can take out seed packets for your garden.
Clinton also hosts a cake pan collection. The pans circulate throughout the Mid-York library system and can be delivered to the library closest to you.
Croquet sets can be found at the Cazenovia and Waterville libraries.
Morrisville and Chittenango libraries offer notary services. Morrisville library also sells flash drives.
At the Sherrill Kenwood library, you can borrow a membership pass for a free guided tour of the Oneida Community Mansion House.
Ilion Free Public has a circulating hand-tool collection.
Waterville Public Library circulates a telescope and has an observatory on library grounds. The Kirkland Town Library (Clinton) also has a telescope, as well as 10 American Girl Dolls and a Wonder Workshop Dash Robot patrons can take home.
Utica Public Library is developing a gardening tools collection; Frankfort a cookie cutter collection and Oneida is just about to launch a cupcake and cake decorating kit.
A library card gives everyone free access to most of these items, as well as the all the books, DVDs, music CDs and other material available in the 43 member libraries of the Mid-York library system, not to mention the on-line resources which can be found at www.midyork.org.
