STEM and STEAM Programs are gearing up for summer at the Canastota Public Library. These programs, including Ready, Set, Robotics, Arduino Fun and Maker Mondays are designed with kids ages 10 to 15 in mind.

Maker Mondays will be held each Monday from July 3 through July 31 beginning at 2pm. Each week will focus on a specific topic. The sessions will explore kitchen science, robotics, engineering, art and mathematics in fun, hands-on lessons. To sign up for Maker Mondays, visit the library during Summer Registration Week, June 26 – July 1.

Ready, Set, Robotics is back for the third summer. In this Tuesday evening session, youth create, build and program NXT Mindstorm Robots. The youth work in a team environment and also have the opportunity to learn about robots in the workplace.

Ready Set, Robotics offers the chance to learn about robotics in a friendly, exciting environment. Community volunteers who work in computer science and engineering fields help in this program. Sessions will held June 26, July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Due to some space restraints, applications are used for this program and are available now at the library. Every effort is made to include everyone who signs up.

Arduino Fun is a new summer program this year. We have been holding Arduino Drop-In Sessions on Saturday mornings and its popularity has suggested a four week program was needed. In Arduino Fun, youth learn to interface things like motors, lights, sensors and electromagnets. With Arduinos, students learn to make devices respond and react to the world at large. Arduino Fun is limited to 15 kids, ages 10 and up. It will be held on the following four Thursdays, June 29, July 6, 13 and 20 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Applications are also being accepted for the Arduino Fun program.

Applications are available now for these programs at the Canastota Public Library. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact Beth Totten at the library at 315-697- 7030. The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center Street in Canastota.
