Assemblyman: mobile unit will be a first for Utica first responders

Mobile command center utilizes the latest cutting-edge technology, including surveillance, radio, and satellite systems

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica today unveiled the new Mobile Command Center for Utica’s Police and Fire Departments purchased through a $250,000 state grant he awarded to the City of Utica.

“Our Mohawk Valley climate is famous for being very unpredictable. When our first responders are working overtime at the scene of an emergency, this vehicle will provide shelter from the elements, and also the workstations and communications equipment they need to handle an emergency scene as efficiently as possible, while having a central location at the scene. It also will be used at major community events like The Boilermaker, providing a temporary headquarters where people can interact with the police department,” Brindisi said.

“This mobile command post is an invaluable tool in enhancing public safety for many different situations. I thank Assemblyman Brindisi for his continued advocacy and providing the resources needed to keep our community safe,” said Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams says the mobile command center is essentially a police station on wheels, serving as a communications hub during fires, natural disasters, major crime scenes, and at large events.

“The command center is designed with a conference room large enough to conduct strategy meetings. It provides mobile wireless connectivity and communications systems first responders can use. It is outfitting with cutting-edge technology that supports multiple public safety web-based programs, including state of the art surveillance, radio, and satellite systems,” Williams said.

“Police work is changing rapidly, and I am pleased to have provided the Utica Police and Fire Departments with the ability to use the latest technology at major crime and emergency incident scenes, as well as at community events. When disaster strikes, one of the most important things for first responders is to be able to communicate rapidly and reliably, and this Mobile police station will enable them to do that,” Brindisi said.
