On Aug. 21, North America will be treated to one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights when the moon will completely cover the sun in a total eclipse. From 2 -5 pm, join Friends of Rogers, the Earlville Public Library, and the Sherburne Public Library for a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party at Rogers Center in celebration of this remarkable phenomenon.

While Central NY is outside the path of the complete eclipse, viewers will see a partial eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk.  A variety of unique activities will commemorate this special occasion, and everyone in attendance will receive a complimentary pair of glasses through which to safely experience the eclipse.

“We’re excited to be collaborating with our local public libraries to host this unique viewing party,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “It’s been over 100 years since a similar celestial event has occurred, so we are in for a real treat.”

While there is no charge, contributions are encouraged to support future programs. Pre-registration is suggested by noon on August 21; call (607) 674-4733 or e-mail env.educator@FriendsofRogers.org.

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
