On June 12, 2017, New York State Police responded to a large fight on the beachfront in Sylvan Beach.  The incident involved potential victims that reported that the fight might have been bias-related. After a lengthy investigation into identifying all possible individuals involved in the fight and all witnesses, there was insufficient evidence to support that a bias-crime had occurred.

As a result of the investigation, Jeremy L. Hauswirth, 21, of Baldwinsville, currently incarcerated in Wyoming Correction Facility on unrelated charges, was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment.

Hauswirth was arraigned in Sylvan Beach Village Court and was remanded back to the custody of the New York State Corrections and Community Supervision. He is scheduled to appear back in court Nov. 2, 2017, at 4 p.m.
