Eight Raiders Score Seven Or More Points In Full Team Effort

Thirteen different Raiders scored to lead the Colgate men’s basketball team to a big 103-52 win over Pitt-Bradford in the Raiders’ non-league finale at Cotterell Court Friday afternoon.

The 51-point win marked Colgate’s largest margin of victory since a 97-46 win over St. Lawrence in the 1946-47 season. Colgate’s 103 points were the most in a single game in 20 years, while the Raiders improved to 5-0 at home for the first time in 17 years.

All 14 dressed Raiders saw playing time, with numerous student-athletes putting together career-best outings. First-year Jack Ferguson led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists sand three steals in 15 minutes of action. Junior Malcolm Regisford followed with 15 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Will Rayman added 12.

Six points from Rayman helped Colgate to a quick 10-0 lead as the Raiders kept the Panthers scoreless through the first five-plus minutes of the game. Pitt-Bradford made its first basket at the 14:30 mark and was within nine at 17-8 two minutes later.

The Raiders rattled off a 14-2 run over the next five minutes to pull ahead 31-10 following a Rayman layup at the 7:44 mark. A 5-0 streak would be Pitt-Bradford’s largest of the half before Colgate scored the term’s final nine points to carry a 49-20 advantage into the locker room.

Dunks from junior Dana Batt and senior Jordan Swopshire helped Colgate stretch its lead to 32 at 59-27 in the opening minutes of the second half. Scoring was even through the first eight minutes of the term until a three-pointer from senior Jordan Robertson sparked a 10-0 Colgate streak that put the Raider lead at 71-33 with 11:26 to play.

Ferguson scored nine-straight Colgate points to put the score at 80-37 two minutes later. The Raiders wouldn’t let the Panthers get closer than 40 the rest of the way as Colgate cruised to the 103-52 win.

FROM THE SOURCE

Head Coach Matt Langel

·      “It’s been important for us coming out of exams to really work on our principles both offensively and defensively. I was proud of how we did that tonight. Our guys had chances to make selfish plays, but they didn’t and we shared the ball well and took what the defense gave us.”

·      “It’s really fun to get everybody in the game and the excitement early in the game was the same for the guys that got in late.”

·      “The holidays are a special time because you get to spend them with loved ones and that’s always important. We have to stay sharp and get ready to go because Patriot League play is up next.”

UP NEXT

·      Colgate now turns its attention to Patriot League play, which begins on Dec. 29 when the Raiders travel to Holy Cross.

·      Tipoff from Worcester, Mass. is set for 7 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
