MVRC Chili Challenge kick-off event set for Feb. 11

The Chili Challenge to benefit the Mohawk Valley Rotary Club will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Francesca’s Banquets & Catering, 144 E. Main St., Ilion.

The Chili Challenge features professional cooks and the best chili in the Mohawk Valley. Usually held on the Sunday after the Super Bowl, the event has regularly attracted more than 200 people who are looking for a tasty way to stay warm in the dead of winter.

The competition includes restaurant contestants, with award categories in each league (People’s Choice, Most Unique, Best Presentation and Hottest) Visitors will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite chili.

Some of the competitors include Dominick’s Deli in Herkimer, Heidelberg Café in Herkimer, PK’s Pub in Herkimer, O’ Baby’s in New Hartford, Franco’s Pizzeria in Ilion, Cucina Berto from Herkimer Elks, Moose River Coffee in Ilion, and the Travelodge in Little Falls.

The family-friendly event will also include a 50/50 raffle, beer tasting, DJ and our celebrity host from WKTV Steve McMurray.

The event will be one of Mohawk Valley Rotary Club’s top fundraisers. Locally the Mohawk Valley Rotary Club served the villages of Mohawk, Ilion, Herkimer and Frankfort. Our goal is to give back to the community with our time and raised funds. Rotary’s motto is: Service Above Self” Our local Rotary club supports numerous local organizations.

We are involved locally with the “Adopt a Highway” program,  Food Drive to benefit our local Catholic Charities and Salvation Army Pantries,  “Books for the World”, where we collect and send books to underprivileged children to third world countries, Youth Exchange program, Dolly Parton Literacy Program and much more.
