Tenney Votes to Pass Anti-Sexual Harassment And Discrimination Policies

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney(R-NY) voted yes on HR 4924, Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act and H Res 724, House Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policies.

“It is imperative that all who work in the halls of Congress are held to the highest ethical standards,” Tenney said. “In 2012, as a member of the New York State Assembly, I demanded the resignation of Speaker Sheldon Silver, for using taxpayer money to cover up sexual harassment claims. Sexual harassment is an abuse of power in the workplace. I fought relentlessly against the cover-up culture in New York state, and I will continue that fight against the similar cover-up culture in Congress.”

HR 4924, Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act overhauls the process for investigating and resolving complaints by congressional employees regarding sexual harassment and other discriminatory acts under the Congressional Accountability Act. It requires members to personally pay for any settlements to victims in cases where they are alleged or proven to be responsible for the harassment or other discriminatory act.

H Res 724, House Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policies modifies House rules to explicitly prohibit sexual harassment and to forbid sexual relationships between any member and his or her staff, and it requires all House offices to adopt anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies.
