Chenango County Republicans endorse McBride for State Supreme Court
The Chenango County Republican Committee has endorsed District Attorney Joseph A. McBride for New York State Supreme Court in the Sixth Judicial District. The endorsement came following a vote of Committee Members from across Chenango County.
“The people who appear in State Supreme Court deserve a judge with unquestioned integrity, a deep knowledge of the law, and experience on both sides of the courtroom,” said D.A. McBride. “I’ve dedicated my life to serving the people of our community as D.A. for 18 years and in private legal practice earlier in my career.”
State Supreme Court is among the most important courts within our legal system. The decisions made in State Supreme Court on criminal, civil and municipal matters can affect everyone living and working in New York state.
The Sixth Judicial District encompasses all of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins Counties. The vacancy in this office was created by the recent retirement of Judge Kevin Dowd.
During his nearly 35 years working in the criminal justice system, District Attorney McBride has extensive and wide-ranging experience, having handled over 1,600 felony cases, over 60 jury trials, and prosecution of nearly all Chenango County homicides since 1999. He has also worked to adopt the newest technologies in his office and the courtroom. For example, he was the first District Attorney in New York state to utilize Skyped testimony in a murder trial.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve and protect the families of Chenango County as D.A.,” he added. “Working in court every day for more than three decades has provided me with invaluable experience and now I’m ready for the next step: bringing this extensive professional legal and community service experience to serve the people of the Sixth Judicial District as your new State Supreme Court Judge.”
As a candidate, District Attorney McBride is a proven vote-getter, having won countywide elections for District Attorney six times. He has also been a longstanding and dedicated member of the community, including service with the Norwich City School Board, Chenango County Youth Board, Multi-Disciplinary Task Force for Abused Children, Chenango County Traffic and Safety Commission, St. Paul’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Chenango Foundation (past President), Hospice (past Vice President), Northeast Classic Car Museum (past Secretary), Chenango County Chamber of Commerce, Norwich Little League, District Attorney’s Association of the State of NY, and former Adjunct Professor Morrisville State College.
District Attorney McBride lives in Norwich with his wife, Louann. The couple has two grown sons.
