SUNY Canton Offers Free Application for Military Members, Veterans

SUNY Canton is continuing its tradition as a military-friendly college by waiving application fees for active-duty military, National Guard members, reservists, and veterans.

The college is currently the only four-year SUNY institution that has the military waiver policy. The $50 fee will be paid for by generous donations from alumni and friends to the Canton College Foundation.

“Making college an affordable option for our military students is a priority for us, and we’re proud to be a leader in this area,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “This initiative, along with scholarship opportunities and other support services, are aimed to ease the financial burden for those who are serving, or have served, our country.”

In addition to the free application, the college employs a Military and Veteran Student Service Coordinator to help students navigate the programs that can assist them in reaching their educational goals. And to help acclimate military students to college life, the Raymond G. Modell ’62 Veterans Lounge and Battle Buddy Center is a designated area where veterans and active duty members can socialize and build camaraderie. The college’s online degrees also provide flexible learning options for those located overseas or those who need to relocate due to frequent permanent change of station requirements.

SUNY Canton’s military-friendly environment has earned endorsements from several armed forces trade publications. This year, G.I. Jobs, Military Times, and Military Advanced Education & Transition magazines have all selected the college for their respective 2018 “best of” guides.
