Tenney votes for balanced budget amendment, promoting fiscal responsibility

Rep. Tenney voted in favor of H.J.Res 2, the balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States. This joint resolution amends the U.S. Constitution to require that Congress not spend more than it receives in revenue. It also requires a true majority in both the House and the Senate to pass tax increases and a three-fifths supermajority to raise the debt limit and includes exceptions for times of war or threats to national security.

“It’s been my mission in Washington to eliminate wasteful spending and ensure that the government works for the people. It is time we hold Washington to the same standards as everyday Americans. Every household or small business must budget their money and live within their means. It’s about time Congress do the same,” said Tenney. “The debt our country has accumulated will have serious impacts for generations to come. We owe it to our children and grandchildren to reverse the course and fix Washington’s spending problem before it is too late. I will continue to be a force in Congress that encourages fiscal responsibility and will fight to ensure our countries future generations are not burdened with our wasteful spending habits.”

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy: “Republicans are devoted not just to tackling our debt, but changing the structure in Washington that continually produces bad results. The Balanced Budget Amendment would change the rules of the game and forces Washington to be better stewards of taxpayer money. Representative Tenney has long been a leader in the fight to change Washington and balance the books, and her support was critical to move this amendment on the House floor today despite Democrat opposition.”
